Penn State came out of their first loss of the season a bit battered and bruised. Perhaps the most notable injury taken by Penn State last weekend was to quarterback Sean Clifford, and there appears to be no determination on when he will be able to return to the playing field for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State head coach James Franklin isn’t typically known to share much information regarding injuries, so there has been no confirmation on what Clifford’s specific injury was that led to him coming out of the game against Iowa before halftime. And, on Wednesday, Franklin still was reluctant to show his hand on who will play quarterback the next time Penn State plays a game.

But, Franklin hasn’t ruled out Clifford being the one leading the offense.

“Nothing has been decided or determined,” Franklin said regarding the status of Clifford ahead of Penn State’s next game in two weekends. “He’s doing everything he possibly can to get back as soon as he possibly can and go from there. What he’s dealing with is not uncommon with the QB position.”

Clifford left Penn State’s game against Iowa after his final drive of the game in the second quarter led to the Nittany Lions taking a 17-3 lead at Iowa. Penn State’s offense was not the same since his departure, leading to a 23-20 setback on the road.

The bye week comes at a good time for Penn State, as it allows Clifford more time to work on returning as quickly as he can. In the meantime, Penn State is using the opportunity to give more significant reps to TaQuan Roberson, who stepped in to replace the injured Clifford against Iowa, and Christian Veilleux.
