Manchester United are set to miss out on the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka.
The German recently entered the final year of his contract, and it has been claimed that the Red Devils could propose a pre-contract in January.
However, their plans appear set to be dashed with the midfielder on the cusp of committing to a new long-term deal at Bayern, Bild reports.
Joshua Kimmich recently committed to a new contract on a staggering €20m annual package. Goretzka could sign a deal worth €15m.
Bayern were initially reluctant to pay anywhere close to that figure, but there has been a surprise change in stance over the past few days.
The Bavarian giants are keen to keep the core of the squad together. Goretzka will be among the top five earners after the extension.
Bayern are not planning any high-profile signings this summer, and they could wait for another 12 months to pursue a new striker.
