Barca 1-1 Granada
Barca: Araujo (90′)
Granada: Duarte (2′)
Last season, Granada created a big shock when defeating Barca with a score of 2-1 right at the Nou Camp. Although that disaster was not repeated in this match, Barca continued to have a bad day against the away team. The Blaugrana had a disappointing performance from start to finish and they didn’t even deserve a point.
Right in the 88th second, from the cross of left-back Escudero, centre-back Domingos Duarte standing in the far post headed the home team’s net to open the scoring for the visitors. Granada then took advantage of the lead and dropped deep to deploy a tight defense to preserve the score.
Ronald Araujo comes to the rescue of Barca
Barca tried to break through that solid defense system but could not succeed. They only know how to pass back and forth and do not show any breakthroughs or creativity in attacking lines on the third side of the Granada field. At the end of the first half, Barca completely deserved a defeat and they need to do more if they want to win the second half.
But there was no improvement, even though Ronald Koeman was on the field of Luuk De Jong. And Barca turned into a crossing machine to take advantage of the Dutch striker’s height, but Granada had no problem in dissolving.
Araujo is a rare bright spot of Barca
In the 75th minute, Koeman decided to push Gerard Pique to kick the striker with De Jong to try to find an equalizer. At this point, more and more crosses were sent into the box and Ronald Araujo decided to come forward too to help.
Araujo was a monster the whole game and deserved to equalize and that’s what the young centre-back did. A perfect run and a smart header in the 90th minute helped Barca hold onto a point at the Nou Camp. The final whistle blew, and an unsightly performance didn’t end with a loss. This is clearly not Koeman’s way of keeping his chair.
